Canberra Raiders support local Green Machines
The Green Machine will be living up to their name this Sunday, giving local environmental group Canberra Loves 40% time on the big screen to present their vision for a light rail solution to the city’s congestion woes.
Canberra Loves 40%, a local community group promoting a sustainable, vibrant and emissions free city, have created a short video that will be aired at Canberra Stadium throughout the rest of the Raiders’ 2012 season. The video shows a new future for Raiders fans, traveling to and from games on a light rail system. It promotes integrated rapid transport as an environmental and social solution for the city.
“The Raiders are demonstrating a real commitment to Canberra by airing our promo,” Canberra Loves 40% spokesperson Phoebe Howe said.
“Increasing congestion and the pollution that goes with it is a problem that requires a serious commitment to resolve. This video shows a vision that we hope will get fans excited about the possibilities of light rail in Canberra. It’s great to have the support of an ACT institution like the Raiders in helping Canberrans start thinking and talking about such a big issue for their future.
“It’s also great that we get to kick off our video at the Titans match, because at their home turf at the Gold Coast a new light rail system is being built right now.”
The Canberra Raiders have a long record of supporting local community groups and responding to issues important to the Canberra community. This includes fundraising support for local charities, programs at local schools to encourage reading and active living, and programs to improve indigenous health outcomes.
Ms Howe said, “The Raiders’ support demonstrates that the club is right behind environment issues in the ACT, along with the wide range of other causes they support.
“The club’s commitment is a demonstration that businesses and other organisations can be involved in crucial environmental issues that affect the whole community.
“We want people to get out there this Sunday, cheer on the Green Machine and see our vision for a light-rail solution to Canberra’s congestion woes.”
awesome video! I should be at the game on Sunday so will report back on how it goes down. Light rail would be the best thing to happen to canberra since the raiders won the grand final in 1994!
